Health and Safety Brigade

Since December 2022, Crime Prevention Ahuntsic-Cartierville has been working on a project in partnership with the Comité Logement Ahuntsic-Cartierville (CLAC).

This Brigade is an initiative that aims to improve living conditions for citizens by ensuring the cleanliness, safety and good condition of housing. The Brigade works in close collaboration with local authorities.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

The main mission of the BSSL is to carry out door-to-door inspections of housing blocks with more than 6 dwellings. It looks after the health of dwellings, combating problems of insalubrity such as dampness, mold, pest infestations and accumulated garbage.

As far as safety is concerned, BSSL ensures that homes comply with fire safety standards. Our staff carry out date checks on fire extinguishers. They also raise residents’ awareness of good domestic safety practices, to reduce the risk of accidents.

The project also plays an important role in resolving disputes between landlords and tenants. It acts as a neutral mediator to facilitate discussions and find equitable solutions. The aim is to prevent conflict and promote harmonious relations between the parties concerned.

The project also collaborates with other competent services and organizations, such as social and health services, to offer a comprehensive approach to housing issues. It takes part in awareness-raising and educational initiatives to promote quality of life and well-being in housing.

The floor is with the citizens.

The people from the health and safety brigade came like guardian angels. They were patient and helpful and accompanied me every step of the way to contact the city and the landlords. After several years of frustration in a substandard apartment, I was able to improve my situation.

Canada Summer Jobs Project: This is my third summer at PCAC. If I could sum up PCAC, it’s a cheerful, understanding team, guaranteed fun, a great work experience, great meetings and sunburn! It’s a job where you can fulfill yourself, make yourself useful to your company and learn something new about your city daily. Thank you PCAC, you have a place in my heart and on my resume forever!

There was always graffiti on my way to work. It certainly gave a bad impression. So when the ACCP erased them, I found a little rest.

Canada Summer Jobs Project: Working for PCAC as a bike patroller is an incredible experience for me! Especially since it’s my first job. I feel very much a part of the team, thanks to my teammates and the PCAC employees. Also, knowing that the comments we make contribute to the safety of citizens is really rewarding!
